Yesterday, my teacher was talking about inserting IVs into patients. She said, "I am completely convinced that a smart monkey could insert an IV. It's not that hard." Ha ha! I'm in smart monkey school!
That made me laugh for a couple minutes. In fact, I laughed out loud again today in class when we were being taught how to convert 5 grams into milligrams. (By the way, the answer is "eek eek.")
It's really only this one class that is so slow and boring you want to shove a pencil into your eye. The other class (pharmacology - which by the way is a real word. Someone uneducated in the field tried to tell me otherwise) is a very interesting class, and I am attentive for the whole 4 hours. Today we talked about how rifampin induces the enzyme cytochrome P450/1A2, and since estradiol is a substrate of cytochrome P450/1A2...your birth control pills probably won't work as well in you're on rifampin. Good to know, right?
By the way, grapefruit juice inhibits cP450/3A4, so don't drink any when you are taking any med with that as a substrate, or it could lead to toxicity. Not good.
