A couple weeks ago was my last week of work in Hugo. It has been a fun run in a rural hospital, full of great stories and great people. I'm sure I'll write a sappy post about the great people but this post will be the last of the great stories.
We don't deliver babies. This week, we did. The first baby in years. We were in over our heads. Luckily the docs there had delivered several babies in the past. The delivery was longer than expected and a c-section was being talked about. But....we didn't have the proper sutures for the uterus. Of course not. So what did we do? Sent the sheriff with lights and sirens to the next town 20 miles away to get sutures from the vet. Yes, you read that right. The vet, as in animal doctor. A perfect example of what Hugo is. I like to call it "cowboy medicine".
Later that week, a roll over accident from I-70 came in. After clearing my patient of real injuries, he was up hopping around demanding me for his medication, asking the dose strength, shoving some down his pants and asking me for some more because I didn't give him enough, and then asking me to be his nurse at the hotel. All great signs of a drug user.
Well, turns out the drug of choice was meth. And apparently he was a meth dealer as well since in their wrecked car the cops found $100,000 cash. I don't know why, but they weren't arrested so they went to a hotel in Limon, rented a Uhaul and while driving around, crashed into the back of a cop car. They were finally arrested and another $10,000 cash was found in their hotel room.
I'm going to miss Hugo.

I love that he was an obvious drug dealer and they still didn't arrest him. Small, rural towns really are the best.
You never said if you ended up being his nurse at the hotel. ;)
WHere are you off to now? I will miss your stories! HOpefully you will be in a new singles ward with less awkward moments!
You brighten my day! That second story gave me a chuckle. I guess it should have made me sad...
Thanks for sharing your stories. They make us smile. So what's your next adventure? Would love an update!
