More from the Dictionary.

Busy work (biz-Z were-kah); noun.

A term used for assignments that are hardly useful, but must be completed in order to graduate. Assignments tend to be ridiculously time consuming, and often ironic. Examples may include taking multiple tests on how you spend your time or participating in weekly long online discussions about how email and the internet can be one of the least effective methods of communication.

Caution: most professors do not smile upon witty responses such as (in response to discussing how external motivators are not effective) "So since they're not effective, you should probably stop grading us right?", or my favorite (in response to writing a paper on priorities) "I have determined that writing this paper is last on my priority list, so I'm going to go play! The End".
