Yesterday I was sitting in the lobby of the temple waiting for a friend. My mind wandered to the last time I was waiting for someone to come out of the temple.
It was almost a year ago. I was waiting for my mom when a very cute boy who I met just a couple weeks prior and who I never expected to see again, turned the corner. He came and sat by me for a while and we talked. It's a good memory.
So yesterday I was secretly hoping that it would happen again. "Secretly" is the key word because you know nothing happens when you expect it, so I was pretending not to expect it. No later than 2 seconds after that thought did a not-so attractive, awkward-as-can-be boy approached me.
"You waiting for your hubby?"
"Uh...(shoot, I can't lie in the temple!)...No."
"Who are you waiting for?"
"A friend." Trying to avoid eye contact.
"Oh...A frieeeend." He introduces himself, shakes my hand and sits down next to me. "So how has your night been?"
"Oh, just fine." Where in the world is Julie?!
"Oh that's good..."
I see Julie, pop up, say "There's my friend", and walk as quickly as you can inside the temple.
Like I said, so close yet so so far. I like to think that it's the Lord's way of telling me that even though I don't get what I want, He's still listening.

hilarious! I love reading your blog.
I have a similar experience but it's with temple workers asking me if I'm waiting for my husband. I've only been a smart aleck about it twice and responded,"yes, I am waiting for my husband. Have you seen him?"
Love this post!
I never realized what a great place the temple lobby could be to pick up women.
That is a great story!
Julie
