My new pet peeve is when college students in a 400 level class ask this question.
Are you here to get an education or to get good grades? If the teacher says that it's not going to be on the test, then those particular students pretty much just stop listening. I can't stand it when people argue for points on their quiz or test. If you must do it, because I know that sometimes it's legit to do if you really did understand the concept but not the question, then do it on your own time during the teacher's office hours and don't take up 20 minutes of class to complain! Pah-lease! It especially bugs me that these are the people that are trying to get into medical school, because you are going to be responsible for a lot more than just what a teacher has on their test. You are going to be taking care of people's health, maybe in life and death situations. If you are so fixed on getting a good grade that you don't actually learn the material or have an interest in learning all there is rather than the bare minimum, then I don't want you being my, or my family's, doctor. Sure there may be some teacher's here and there that may have ridiculously hard tests where they test something they didn't even mention in class, but I believe those teachers are few and far between. This pet peeve is coming out after 4 years of being at college, so I think it is justified.

AMEN! Pre-meds are so annoying. The teacher should say either "you betcha!" Or "I don't know, I haven't written the test yet.".
