When down in Chile, for some reason people (American people) wished me a Feliz Cinco de Mayo. I just want to make it clear to everyone that Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday....not a Latin holiday.
But speaking of May 5th, did you know that in this day in history the first American (Alan Shepard) went into space in 1961? I always found it amazing that we were able to send a man into space and bring him back alive before we invented the VCR or even the Walkman. Space has always fascinated me. In fact, when I was in middle school we were supposed to write about what we wanted to do when we grew up, and I wrote about becoming a NASA engineer. I know...Now it's laughable, but I seriously wanted to be just like those men in Apollo 13, using slide rules to figure out how to bring home astronauts safely. I was a wanna-be geek then, and I am a wanna-be geek now.
Thinking of space made my mind wander a little over to Apollo 11. We all know that it was Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin who were the first astronauts on the moon, but does anyone know the name of the 3rd astronaut who was with them? The command module pilot? Anyone?
Micheal Collins. I feel bad for the guy. He never walked on the moon. Imagine coming that close and never having it happen. He must feel like a failure! Though he was the 3rd American to walk in space...so I guess that's pretty cool.

Wow! What a great blog article. I have tons of comments.
Cinco de Mayo is a crock. It's not even a Mexican holiday, really. Nobody in Mexico celebrates it, except for kindof the city of Puebla.
Does that stop me from wearing my big mexican sombrero to work today? Ha ha, I think not! Ole!
I read a book by Michael Collins, talking about how he was just chilling in the space capsule while Neil and..um..Buzz? I forget who the other guy was - went down and touched on the moon. I don't think he even had access to the tv feed. Kinda sad, but he took in stride. Good guy.
Oh, and we all know that you're a geek. Just so you know. Now excuse me while I go to the fabric store with my wife.
